Delegate O’Quinn Receives 2014-15 Committee Assignments
This week the Virginia General Assembly convened in Richmond in Mr. Jefferson’s Capitol.  The Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, Bill Howell, announced committee assignments and appointed Delegate Israel O’Quinn to Commerce & Labor, Finance, Privileges & Elections, and Militia, Police, & Public Safety.  Commerce & Labor is a new appointment for 2014-15, putting Delegate O'Quinn at the maximum number of committees on which any one member may serve. 

Commerce & Labor hears bills pertaining to the coal and energy sector, Virginia’s right to work law and overarching jobs and economic policy.
The Finance Committee plays a key role in the taxation and fiscal policies of the Commonwealth.
Privileges & Elections deals with the many issues regarding elections in the Commonwealth, as well as confirms appointments by the Governor.  This committee strives to make elections as fair as possible and allow every citizen a voice.  
The Militia, Police, & Public Safety Committee has broad oversight over the safety of the Commonwealth.  Issue areas that will be heard include law enforcement, corrections, the Virginia National Guard and the Second Amendment.
Delegate Israel O’Quinn was elected in November 2011 and is serving his second term in the Virginia House of Delegates representing the Fifth District. 
The Fifth House District is comprised of the cities of Bristol and Galax, all of Grayson County, part of Washington County, and part of Smyth County.  Delegate O’Quinn encourages citizens to contact him to share their views with regard to legislation or issues that will come before the House of Delegates.
