Governor's Budget Amendment for Prison

For Immediate Release

Delegate Israel O’Quinn comments on Governor’s proposed budget amendment for prison

“I am very pleased that Governor McDonnell has decided to include funding in his budget to open the River North Correctional Facility in Grayson County.  Opening the prison has been one of my very highest priorities since the moment I took office.  We have explored multiple avenues over the past several months, and ultimately having the Governor include it in his budget is by far the best route we could have hoped for.  While this is not the final step, it is certainly a monumental step in the process.”

“It has been a very long road to get to this point and a lot of hard work has been put in by a number of people throughout the Twin County area.  I would like to thank Senator Bill Carrico who has been working on this project for several years now, as well as County, City and Town officials and citizens from all across the Fifth House District.  This is a very, very exciting development for our area and I cannot wait until we cut the ribbon and put folks to work.”

Israel O’Quinn was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates on November 8, 2011.  He represents the 5th House District which is comprised of Bristol City, Galax City, Grayson County, Smyth County (part) and Washington County (part).
