Delegate O’Quinn Receives Committee Assignments

This week the Virginia General Assembly convened in Richmond in Mr. Jefferson’s Capitol.  The Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, Bill Howell, announced committee assignments and appointed Delegate Israel O’Quinn to the Finance Committee, the Privileges and Elections Committee, and the Militia, Police, and Public Safety Committee.

As a member of the Finance Committee, Delegate O’Quinn will play an active part in determining which resources are needed to operate the government, while keeping a watchful eye on the Commonwealth’s taxation.  Delegate O’Quinn’s business experience will help him foster the balance between the realms of government and business.

Delegate O’Quinn will also serve on the Privileges and Elections Committee, which deals with the many issues regarding elections in the Commonwealth.  This committee strives to make elections as fair as possible and allow every citizen a voice.  Being newly-elected, Delegate O’Quinn understands the value and importance of being able to participate in the democratic process.

The Militia, Police, and Public Safety Committee has broad authority over the safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth.  This committee will deal with many issues that influence the day-to-day lives of Virginians.  Public safety is important to Delegate O’Quinn and his experience as a volunteer firefighter as well as his previous service in the Attorney General’s office make him well-qualified to serve in this important capacity.

Delegate O’Quinn, a new face in the General Assembly, is ready to serve the Fifth District and Commonwealth.  He has the real-world experience and knowledge to tackle tough issues, coupled with the determination and perseverance to see things through.  He will be a strong advocate for the Fifth District and Virginia as a whole.

The Fifth House District encompasses the cities of Bristol and Galax, all of Grayson County, part of Washington County, and part of Smyth County.  Delegate O’Quinn encourages citizens to contact him to share their views with regard to legislation or issues coming before the House of Delegates. Delegate O’Quinn may be reached by email at or phone at (804) 698-1005 during session or (276) 525-1311 once session has adjourned.
